Building a Community Library

This paper chronicles interventions to renovate and repurpose a community library in one of the poorest countries world; Malawi, where over 80% population lives below poverty line (less than US$1.25/day). initial report is based on activities undertaken by team individuals with diverse expertise cultural backgrounds, common vision for repurposing Kwakupokela Community Library. To date, key achievements include: Educational Trust has been created registered Malawi government as non-governmental organization which now operates library; Memorandum Understanding (MoU) signed Mzuzu University; new books have donated; both old processed; dilapidated relentlessly leaking roof replaced iron sheets; ceiling fixed; inner walls painted. More importantly, opened its doors community. Challenges remain this ongoing initiative, include outdated limited information resources, sustainability operations, space shortages hygiene issues, including lack restrooms.
